‘A new Christchurch video game development studio has scored a major coup by attaining official Nintendo developer status.

Stickmen Studios chief executive Wil McLellan said he found out only hours before an official function at the company’s Hereford Street office late last month that the fledgling company had been granted approved developer status for the console gaming giant.

Nintendo of America Inc has authorised the company as a Wii developer, which allows the company to develop both Wii™ and WiiWare games games that can be played with the movement-sensing Nintendo Wii™ console.

The deal has even more significance for the Christchurch video game development scene, as it is believed that Stickmen is only the second game development studio in New Zealand to achieve official Nintendo developer status.

The other is Sidhe Interactive in Wellington.

Stickmen is the latest in a growing number of video game development studios in Christchurch, including Zodal and Savant Information Services.’
